About ASHE
The American Society of Highway Engineers (ASHE) is a national professional organization dedicated to advancing the highway and transportation industry through education, innovation, professional development, and networking.
The foundation of ASHE is its locally operated sections, which bring together engineers, consultants, contractors, government representatives, and other transportation professionals. These sections organize technical luncheons, educational seminars, networking opportunities, and social events that encourage knowledge sharing and professional relationships. Each section is governed by a local Board of Directors, while ASHE National provides organizational leadership through its Board of Directors and various national committees. Regional representatives serve as liaisons between local sections and the national organization. Today, ASHE connects more than 7,700 transportation professionals nationwide, with over 50 operating sections across the United States.
History of ASHE
Founded in Pennsylvania in 1958, the American Society of Highway Engineers was established through the collaborative efforts of engineers from the Pennsylvania Department of Highways, consulting engineers, contractors, material suppliers, and other highway industry professionals. The organization's roots began in the Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, area, where industry leaders recognized the importance of bringing transportation professionals together to promote collaboration and advance the highway engineering profession.
Since its founding, ASHE has grown into a nationwide professional organization, connecting thousands of transportation professionals through its network of local sections and regional leadership.
